the magnet thingy

Ty, Reagan, Erin and Sean

We had friends over for the 4th and had a great time. Danny simply wanted to make "beer-can chicken" for dinner and before you know it we had 2 other families over....a grand total of 6 adults and 6 kids....and my house isn't that big. Thank goodness for the mango margaritas! We didn't go see the parade or the fireworks because I didn't want to get Katie out in the madness. I know that Ty would have loved the parade and I felt guilty for not taking him. Next year Katie will be over a year old and we should all have a great time. I'm not sure how Ty would react to seeing the fireworks live, but he did wake up once last night when the town's firework display started. I hope everyone had a happy holiday (and hopefully day off of work!)

Ok, so now to the magnet thingy...
We installed childproof locks on our cabinets when Ty started crawling around. The locks we chose for the cabinet under the kitchen sink, which holds all sorts of poisonous products (remember "Mr. Yuk" stickers), are super-duper no-kid-can-break-this-code kind of lock. In fact, most adults that come to visit can't even open the lock! It's called the "Tot Lok" (http://www.epinions.com/kifm-Safety-Household_Precautions-Rev-a-Shelf_Tot-Lok) and involves the use of their specialized magnet thingy to flip the locking mechanisim on the opposite side of the cabinet door. The process is not as complicated as it sounds...you just line up the magnet thingy on the outside of the cabinet door with the mechanizim that has been installed on the other side and "click", the door is unlocked. The kicker is that only the Tot Lok's powerful magnet thingy will open the lock. Nothing holding up a watercolor masterpiece from your 2 year old will open this sucker. And if you happen to throw away the Tot Lok magnet thingy (or maybe one of your guests from the 4th of July throws is away) you are basically screwed until you buy another one ($4.00). So, I can't get to my trash can (which I believe is full), my trash bags, or any cleaning supplies. Remember... I just had a dinner party for 12 people and there are lots of dirty dishes that need to be cleaned....but no dishwashing liquid is available. ugh. So tomorrow I have to pack up the kids (Danny's in Charlotte) just to go purchase a Tot Lok magnet and will have to put it on the debit card because I never carry cash! Speaking of which, I ran my card for $1.87 at Caribou Coffee today. I truly don't care about running my card for such a small amount, but why did I feel the need to apologize to the cashier?

LOL - I always apologize for charging such a small amount as well. I didn't know that they had magnet tot locks - it sounds really cool - we just have the old fashioned kind. I'm glad that you had a great 4th!

I never carry cash either. I can make it a whole week or two on a biz trip without any cash at all. My boss can't figure out how I do it. (Easy - most taxis take CC now..) I've charged less than a dollar - if that makes you feel any better...
