2 Cents

I need your 2 cents on a few things. Maybe you know first hand, maybe you have a friend of a friend that knows. Either way, I would love to know what you know about the following topics.

1) Where to stay and what to do in Mackinac (pronounced Mack-i-naw) Island in Michigan. I saw the island on a tv show and it looks so cool. Only bicycles and horse drawn carriages are allowed on the island!

2) The best place to buy fabric for new curtains in the kitchen. Is Joann the obvious choice with their 40% off coupon?

3) Tips for parenting a screaming 4 year old when he doesn't get his way.

4) I might have the opportunity to spend 1 day at a Disney park with a coworker this summer (due to a convention in Orlando). With only 1 day, which park do we visit?

Can't wait to read your responses! Thanks in advance!

1. There's not a whole lot of Hotels on the island, but the main hotel is called "The Grand Hotel." My friend said it's a little pricey to stay on the island, but you can stay off the island in Mackina City a lot cheaper. Said it's a neat little town with shops and apparently known for its fudge. On the island there's hiking trails, golf, carriage rides as you mentioned, some historic sites such as old military forts. He also said there may be some bed and breakfast places where you could stay. There's a fifteen minute ferry ride that takes you to the island from Mackina city.

2. I know nothing about fabrics

3. I know nothing about 4 year olds....yet.

4. I personally would go to either the MGM and /or the Animal Kingdom.

2. I don't know nuthin' about fabrics. I don't even really have curtains, just blinds.
3. Nope - nuthin' on 4 year olds
4. I'm headed to Epcot for work in a few weeks. I haven't been to Disney World since I was 16...

Wow - I have been of absolutely NO help whatsoever!! sorry...

All I know about Mackinac is that it is expensive.

curtains--Try to find a sheet that you like--works best with a solid fabric and turn it into curtains

My vote is for Epcot, but that's only because I vaguely recall there being a wide selection of alchohol

4 year old....have you tried imitating him? (I never liked this, but I have seen it work with success, even on my own kids); are the temper tantrums induced or random? when my boys were the average age of 4 we went to a chart system--it worked well--the premise was x number of bad behaviors had increasing consequences--1st time was a warning, 2nd time was a time out, 3rd time was you got whacked on the hand 3 times. we kept a daily chart on the fridge and before key times when they would act like nimnuts (going out, to grandmas, etc) we would remind each of them which level they were at and make them tell us what the consequence was if they did the next thing. You know I'm not a spanker, so I inherently had issues with the system HOWEVER we used it for a summer and then it was a non-issue--they either outgrew that phase or wised up. I think that I did also do a reward (which I also have problems with) if they had a certain number of good days in a week.

1. I know nothing of this island. I do know there's a similar one in North Carolina, called Bald Head island. In keeping with the theme, I know of no place to stay or anything to do there, either.
2. Hrm. Wal-Mart?
3. This works with a 3.5 year old. Distract them with humor and make them laugh, to forget about whatever else they're doing...
4. Epcot
