Penelope the Pappy Fairy

Don't you just love SuperNanny? JoJo is brilliant and if you don't think so, then you don't have children. That's all there is to it. I don't know who is feeding her all of this great information or if she really comes up with this stuff on her own, but I'm greatful! So, one of the girls from Wilson Phillips was on SuperNanny the other night...the thin sister, not the gastric bypass one (can't remember their names but you know who I'm talking about, right?). She has a son who is around the 2-3 year old range and they wanted him to get rid of his pappy (our name for pacifier). JoJo had the boy color an envelope and address it to Penelope the Pappy Fairy and put it in the mailbox very ceremoniously. No pappy issues for him that night, either. I'm thinking...could it really be this easy? Then, the next morning, they had the boy check the mailbox for the return surprise envelope from Penelope. He was in awe that he got mail, a prize, etc. Bingo...Penelope was going to get an envelope from us also! I mentioned Penelope to Ty the other night...the envelope, the prize, etc....and he did not like the idea. I told him when he was ready we would mail the pappy to Penelope. Somehow it came out that Penelope lives at the North Pole with Santa and she needed Ty's pappy to give to a baby elf. He seemed to like the detail, so it stuck.

So, we are getting ready to leave the house today to run some errands and Ty announces that we can't leave until we put his pappy in the mail to Penelope. What? Really? He quickly went upstairs to get his pappy and I quickly decorated an envelope with markers and stickers. I had Ty put a few stickers on also and I let him put the pappy inside. I thought he needed to have as much ownership in this as possible. Danny took him to the mailbox to put it inside and who turns the corner but the mail truck. It couldn't have come at a more perfect time! Ty talked the rest of the afternoon about the mail guy taking his pappy to Penelope. I kept thinking this was too easy. Then, it was time to go to bed...melt down city. Ty basically whimpered himself to sleep, but he did it! He fell asleep without his pappy. I'm so proud of him and now I keep thinking about him like an addict in withdrawal. Will Katie's pappies make him go into relapse? He's such a big boy. I'm so proud of him and I love him so much.

papys are big in our house. I didnt allow them the first weeks... butbmy mom was here helping. the day she left polly melted down and I couldn't find one fast enough. we dip them in tea or sugar. she doesnt get it at bedtime anymore (since last weeks tantrums when she dropped them at one in the morning) but she won't nap without it... or let us eat dinner. bless the pappys! and Penelope the pappys fairy. good luck!

The mail man didn't take the pappy. I didn't have a problem leaving it in the mail box....was kind of curious to see if they would take it or not! Danny ran down to the box once Ty was strapped in his car seat and put it in his pocket. The pappy, envelope and all, was actually thrown away at Target!

Yay Ty! And yay Mom for being willing to go through the meltdowns. It is like a crack addict coming down, but it is worth it in the end.
