There's a monster in my house

Usually when you think of monsters in your house, you think back to the ones under your bed or in your closet...maybe even in your basement. (Although we all know that most of us didn't grow up in a house with a basement!) OK, how about the monsters in the attic? Better.

Well, I discovered today that we have had a monster living in our laundry room since we moved in 6 1/2 years ago. Obviously this monster didn't need a lot to sustain himself, but when he did eat, he went for cotton. The sock kind. With one navy blue fleece glove thrown in for good measure. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the monster in our laundry room "ate" twenty (20!!!!!) single socks and 1 fleece glove.

I am hosting a party at the house on Saturday and decided to straighten up the laundry room. I know that I could have just closed the door but I was in a cleaning mood. I used the attachments from the vacuum cleaner to get the dust off of the base boards. Then I thought that the length of the attachments would help me get the few things that had fallen back behind the dryer...a hanger, some dryer sheets and only 1 sock. Then I turned into this maniacal cleaner using the attachment feature of my vacuum to reach places no cleaning utensil had gone since the day we moved in to the house. (Gross). I found socks under both machines that were covered in so much lint, hair, and dust that I had to vacuum them off before I could put them in the dirty clothes pile. Needless to say, I did a lot of sneezing this afternoon. I even mopped behind the washing machine! I spread the machines out a little and had room to put a little plastic drawer between for random stuff. (That shelf has lived in Cope and N8H, by the way!) We are also going to put cabinets in above the machines and get rid of that dinky shelf!

hey! I think I have that rug!! When we moved from Toledo to here David was there when the movers came (I was already here). He called me and said "um, did you know there was one of your thongs behind the washing machine?? The movers found it." I vaguely remember accidentally flinging them behind there while doing laundry months previously and it was too hard to get to so I left it thinking I'll get it one of these days when I clean - not knowing I'd be moving in a bit...

Whoops! embarassing!! ; )

You know, we also have 120,345,105 socks that are missing their mates. How does that happen?

I want you to know that this post made me feel a lot better about myself. :-)
