As some of you may know, I was a HS math teacher right after I graduated from Clemson. I taught for 2 years and then moved out of state and had trouble getting certified before the beginning of the school year. Because I didn't find a teaching job, I started a part-time job at Talbots and turned that into a 5 year management career. I loved running the business but did not like the retail hours. I stayed in management for 1 year after Ty was born and decided that being a retail mom was not for me. So...because my teaching certificate had expired, I had to take 12 hours...yes, you heard me, 12 hours...to become recertified. I decided to go ahead and enroll in a master's program, rather than workshop myself to death. So, here I am, a ready to roll recertified woman, recommitted to education, being a teacher, improving the lives of others, serving the community, so on and so forth and can't find a flipping job. Because it's so hard to find a job around here I have been subbing...since February 2006. Now, they LOVE me as a substitute. I work every day, teachers call me on my cell phone to see if I can work for them, but I can't get hired. What's the deal? Well, I got a call on my cell phone last week from a principal and I will be starting this school year as a long-term sub for a gentleman on paternity leave. It's going to be for 5-6 weeks and it's the best situation a sub can ask for...a routine and a guaranteed paycheck. I met with the principal today and I'm looking forward to it. I will be a math lab teacher (basically supplemental work for 8th graders) and will be helping students to raise standardized test scores and classroom grades. I should get to interact with some characters, so that should make for some interesting stories! School starts Wednesday, so I'm sure that will be a future topic! If you made it to the end of this dry story, sorry for rambling. I feel special that you're interested.
Ty pulled out the book "Polar Express" tonight and was reading it while I put Katie to bed. Then he asked to watch the movie...sure, why not. I don't know if you have seen the movie or are even aware of it, but it's about Christmas and believing in Santa Claus. I love the movie and I love Christmas and just seeing the 20 minutes we watched tonight has put me in the "Christmas mood". Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to start slinging garland everywhere, but I'm starting to get excited about the upcoming holidays. And for those of you groaning right now...Bah Humbug! :)

ok. it is a bit early to start talking abuot the holidays. I mean CRAP! The holloween candy is already in the aisles!!! it's only AUGUST!! man - those supermarkets sure have you parents by the gonads, don't they?? do you even bother bringing the kids with you to grocery shop???
man - I'm losing my mind... I had a whole other comment to add and I totally brain farted... what I was also going to say:
BTW - Congrats on the teaching job! I'm surprised to hear you're having a hard time finding a perm. job! especially in math!! and paternity leave??!!! quite progressive of them!!
Isn't it terrible--but my first thought is paternity leave, what a wuss! And also, he must have been teaching a looong time to accrue that much leave--my own maternity leave cost me almost 10G!!
But congrats! I have heard that jobs are much harder to find north of the Mason Dixon--good luck and have fun--maybe he'll become a stay at home dad!
